Mounted on 12 crawler assemblies, bucketwheel 288 is truly is a monster – the world’s largest terrestial moving machine that can extract and convey 12,500 cubic metres of lignite or overburden an hour. Take a grandstand view as the bucket wheel turns into the digging face with insatiable appetite. Explore the complex system of conveyors as the material is followed to its destination, overburden to a giant crawler-mounted spreader, or coal to a rail-mounted stockpile rehandler.
Without going to the actual mine, you won’t find a better insight into modern surface coal mining or see more spectacular video of giant earthmoving equipment than in this video and its companion.
